Default A deal to revive Manifest on Netflix is inching closer to happening

https://deadline.com/2021/08/manifes...ix-1234797875/

Warner Bros. TV and Netflix are "in the home stretch of complex negotiations" to order a Season 4 of the canceled NBC missing plane drama, reports Deadline's Nellie Andreeva. "In anticipation of a pickup," she adds, "WBTV has started negotiations with the cast and has been making 'if-come' offers to writers — both writers who had worked on the show, created/executive produced by Jeff Rake, and new ones — for the Season 4, sources said. NBCUniversal, which made a spirited effort to get the show back on NBC or Peacock, is no longer in the running, I hear. Reps for WBTV, Netflix and NBCU declined comment."

"Manifest" Saved with 20-Episode Fourth & Final Season on Netflix
by Nellie Andreeva
August 28, 2021

"Manifest" will live on. After weeks of negotiations, Netflix has closed a deal for a super-sized fourth and final season of the missing plane drama, which will be available exclusively on the streamer worldwide.

In a nod to "Manifest‘s" fans, whose passionate support helped resurrect the show following its cancellation by NBC, the announcement of the Season 4 pickup by Netflix was made on so-called “828 Day” (8/28) — when the series about the mystery of Flight 828 is celebrated annually — at 8:28 AM PT.

The final season will be comprised of 20 episodes. As is customary for series on Netflix, the 20-episode season will be split into multiple parts.

I hope the final season is released on DVD or Netflix allows NBC to air all of it after being on Netflix first. Also, I don't want them pulling a Designated Survivor and making Manifest needlessly explicit when the broadcast version wasn't.

Manifest creator had a "a spectrum of emotions" going from cancelation and un-cancelation

"Oh my goodness," Jeff Rake tells EW in his first interview since Netflix ordered a fourth and final season. "It's such a combination of emotions, from gratitude to humility to shock and awe and incredible excitement. It's been a spectrum of emotions from June, when we got the bad news, to July, when we started sniffing the possibility of a future for us. Then there was a month of uncertainty where it looked like something might come together, but there were many hurdles to jump and so you manage your expectations. You're hoping for the best but don't want to go through a second round of disappointment. Thankfully I've had colleagues and family to accompany me along this journey, but the result is so incredible."

That hasn't happened with some other shows that Netflix picked up, such as "Lucifer" and "Designated Survivor".

The CW did air the Netflix-produced "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life", but that had way less explicit content than the other shows.

Manifest did not have explicit content on NBC and was a great show. Netflix had better not ruin that.

Manifest was saved by its massive Netflix viewership, not the #SaveManifest campaign

The streamer says 25 million accounts in the United States and Canada watched Manifest in its first 28 days of availability. Manifest also stuck around Netflix's Top 10 for 71 days. Netflix says it was the numbers behind the scenes, not the fan campaign, that ultimately led to Manifest's renewal for a fourth and final season. “Fan enthusiasm is always great to see, but it really isn’t the emails or tweets — it was all about the viewing,” says Netflix head of global TV Bela Bajaria. “To save a show in this way, it has to have that fan viewing. I appreciate their passion and being connected to the characters, but the viewing is the thing that saved the show.” Meanwhile, Manifest creator Jeff Rake says he pitched Netflix three different options to wrap up the show: A two-hour movie, a six-episode limited series or full season. “I gave them the small, the medium and the large,” says Rake. Netflix, of course, ordered a 20-episode final season. Manifest is expected to get a bigger budget for its final season. “It will be an increased budget,” Bajaria says. “We want them to have a good budget that feels creatively fulfilling, but it’s not finalized yet.” Rake adds: “Netflix said they want us to continue making the show we’ve been making and if they can help with some extra bells and whistles to make it more compelling and spectacular, they want to be able to support that. But I think that it will still feel like the show people have fallen in love with. It’s going to be an incredibly visual 20 episodes and there’s some important (location filming) that’s always been built into the roadmap.”
