What if Fred Dryer and Julia Duffy played Sam and Diane
They were apparently, the runner ups behind Ted Danson and Shelley Long. Fred Dryer did appear in about four episodes of Cheers and Julia Duffy appeared in a single episode from the first season. Of course, Dryer and Duffy later achieved success elsewhere with Hunter and Newhart respectively.
But would Cheers had still remained as successful as it became had in an alternate timeline, played the lead roles? Sam Malone was actually originally envisioned to be an ex-pro football player like Dryer. He was changed to being an ex-baseball pitcher to better match Ted Danson's slender physical type. |
