ABC Renews "The Goldbergs" for 9th Season
"The Goldbergs" Renewed for Season 9 at ABC
by Denise Petski May 14, 2021 ABC has renewed "The Goldbergs" for a ninth season. "The Goldbergs" suffered a huge loss with the passing of George Segal, its Oscar-nominated co-star, before the end of Season 8. Segal died March 23 of complications from bypass surgery at the age of 87. The last episode he filmed before his death, Episode 16 of the show’s current eighth season, aired on April 7. https://deadline.com/2021/05/the-gol...ey-1234754339/ |

I'm not a betting person, but it wouldn't surprise me at this point, if this is going to be the last season. Between Adam about the graduate from high school, Erica's pending nuptials, and the fact that it's already been on for virtually an entire decade. In other words, how much longer can you stretch the "1980-something gimmick" beyond 10 years? Also, I don't think that they're mining material from Adam F. Goldberg's actual life anymore.
Plus, the recent passing of George Seagal as well as the recent allegations about Jeff Garlin's bad behavior on set, have left a bit of a cloud. It sometimes makes me wish, that ABC would've been more patient with wanting a '90s set spin-off like Schooled. They kind of screwed themselves by already implying what would happen to Barry and Erica after the end of The Goldbergs once they reenter Lainey's life. |
