Yaya DaCosta and Torrey DeVitto Exit "Chicago Med"
Yaya DaCosta & Torrey DeVitto Exit "Chicago Med"
by Nellie Andreeva May 12, 2021 As NBC’s "Chicago Med" is heading into its seventh season, the medical drama is bidding farewell to two original cast members, Yaya DaCosta and Torrey DeVitto. DaCosta already has lined up a new series starring role on Fox’s "Our Kind of People". Meanwhile, DeVitto has joined the cast of indie feature Skelly. Deals are currently going on with the other cast members and they are all expected to return. “All good things must come to an end,” DeVitto wrote on Instagram, less than an hour after news broke she and co-star DaCosta would not be returning for Season 7. “It has been such an honor and pure joy to bring Dr. Natalie Manning to life for all of you on Chicago Med for the past 6 seasons. But it is now time for me and her to bow out and say goodbye. Thank you to all you loyal watchers who adored her as much as I did.” DeVitto added, “I can’t wait to share what’s to come with all of you. New adventures await!” https://tvline.com/2021/05/12/torrey...ning-season-7/ |

Yaya DaCosta on her Decision to Leave "Chicago Med" for Lee Daniels Drama "Our Kind of People"
by Rosy Cordero September 8, 2021 Yaya DaCosta addressed her shocking departure from NBC’s "Chicago Med" after six seasons and whether or not her role in Fox’s "Our Kind of People" from executive producer Lee Daniels played a role in her decision. “My exit from Chicago Med and the arrival of this show happened really simultaneously. There isn’t much to say about it. There was a window opening and a question mark as to whether I should stay or go,” said DaCosta during the show’s TCA panel on Wednesday. “And in that window, I fell in love with Our Kind of People and I jumped at the opportunity to work with Lee Daniels again. I first worked with him years ago on The Butler.” https://deadline.com/2021/09/our-kin...ma-1234828896/ |

Chicago Med Season 7 will mark a "new beginning" following the exits of Torrey DeVitto and Yaya DaCosta
"Dealing with the exit of two longtime cast members and the addition of two new ones, and having dealt with the pandemic and its effect on our hospital, we look at season 7 thematically as a new beginning," said executive producer and co-showrunner Diane Frolov ahead of tonight's premiere. She added: "We had to make sure that their arcs last season set them both up for surprising but understandable departures from the show. We also had to set up that the characters they were closest to -- Will, Crockett and Ethan -- were emotionally poised to rebuild their lives after Natalie and April had left." |

"Chicago Med" Vet Yaya DaCosta Talks April and Ethan's Lack of Closure
by Vlada Gelman October 2, 2021 “Chexton” fans, you’re not the only ones feeling like that relationship was left unresolved in the wake of Yaya DaCosta’s departure from "Chicago Med", where the actress had played nurse April Sexton since the series’ debut. In DaCosta’s last episode, aka the Season 6 finale, April and her ex Dr. Ethan Choi shared a surprisingly tender moment as he recovered from a gunshot wound. In the aftermath of Ethan’s life-and-death crisis, April even confessed that she still loves him. But when the medical drama resumed with Season 7, April had moved on to a nurse practitioners program, while Ethan was (temporarily) away in physical therapy. Asked if she feels like she got closure on April’s relationship with Ethan, DaCosta admits, “No, not at all. I think that when [the finale] was written, the idea of April not being at Gaffney Medical Center, and me not being on the show, was not even a thought. Things happened behind the scenes very quickly. We were literally in the final days of shooting the episode while conversations and negotiations about my working there were going on.” “April was holding Ethan’s hand and saying, ‘I’ll never stop loving you,’ and that, had I stayed, could’ve developed so that they could get back together,” the actress continues. “April would’ve joined the nurse practitioners program at Gaffney. But because that didn’t happen and I left, they were able to redefine those moments.” Given the opportunity to wrap up April and Ethan’s on-and-off romance, DaCosta — who now stars in the Fox drama "Our Kind of People" — says she would “absolutely” come back to the NBC series for a guest spot. “My experience on Chicago Med was absolutely lovely,” DaCosta enthuses. “I loved the cast and crew, and it was difficult to leave on a personal level, but not on a professional level.” https://tvline.com/2021/10/02/chicag...sta-interview/ |
