Default Dan sure changed his tune about Mark...

In a later season of “Roseanne” he defended Mark to David, now Mark’s a POS to him.

How The Conners' Lecy Goranson Felt About Becky And Dan's 'Powerful' Argument Over Glenn Quinn's Mark

Quote:
Absolutely. I thought that, I mean, it's just such a powerful scene. I think a lot of us kind of have myths in our family. I know, with my own family, that to me, my grandmother was the hero. For my mom, who had much more of a connection with her, she saw a lot more nuance than my myth. And I think Becky's myth of Mark, of her husband, and Dan's myth of him, it turns out when they really get to it and be honest about it, they realize that they've been kind of living these two myths about this person. I think it's very much what happens in real life, and I find it really interesting.

I think that Becky should have mentioned Roseanne’s death making her drink, too.

Becky’s drinking started in “Roseanne” Season 02 when they had to put a lock on the liquor cabinet.

I remember that episode. Becky was about 13 and she and a friend came over when three parents weren’t home and raided the liquor cabinet. Being so young, they didn’t know anything about alcohol and started mixing different alcoholic drinks together (like drinking rum and vodka, or worse run and vodka together, and yes I know about “Long Island Ice Tea” which made me throw up and die the first and only time I drank it as a youth).

The mother of the other girl let Roseanne and Dan “have it”, giving them grief about why they don’t have a locked liquor cabinet.

For me, I didn’t start drinking until I went to college. I did drugs also. I never did them on high school because of my parents and concerning booze, when I was 16, I considered alcohol to be a part of adulthood and wasn’t that interested (and part of me wish I kept that lack of interest). But 35 years later, I still like alcohol and this is going to be my way of being for the rest of my life.

I went to “rehabs” and they are a complete joke, telling people that they have a “disease” and they need “spiritual” help. I went to three of hothead places seeking psychiatric and psychological help and got 12 Step nonsense instead. At least the show had that wonderful scene of WHY Becky drinks, it is because she lost her husband that she was angry at for her life and losing the money to secure her future. This causes depression and causes people to drink. No “disease” involved. A lot of the 12 Step nonsense actually causes people to drink.

I am off the alcohol for the meantime because I have marijuana which is better than booze and can be used anytime and won’t get you sick or crazy, but where I am, it’s illegal.

I haven’t seen it in a few years, but wasn’t it established in the Roseanne reboot that Becky had a drinking problem? I know The Conners has retconned a lot of things from Roseanne, though, including the existence of Jerry, who was mentioned at least twice during the reboot.
