Chris Rock’s beloved autobiographical family sitcom "Everybody Hates Chris" is coming back as an animated series, with Rock expected to return as the narrator.

The animated take on the 2005 coming-of-age comedy would add to CBS’ growing portfolio of animated content, which started as an extension to existing live-action franchises "Star Trek" and "The Late Show" (with Our Cartoon President for Showtime and Stephen Colbert’s Tooning Out the News for Paramount+).

The Central Park co-showrunner and veteran of Fresh Off the Boat and Cougar Town will lead the animated reboot of Chris Rock’s beloved autobiographical family sitcom for CBS Studios.

Chris Rock’s "Everybody Still Hates Chris" Animated Series Greenlighted for Paramount+ & Comedy Central

"Everybody Still Hates Chris", a reimagined animated version of Chris Rock’s beloved autobiographical family comedy "Everybody Hates Chris", has received a straight-to-series order by MTV Entertainment.

It will be windowed globally across streamer Paramount+ and sibling linear network Comedy Central. Rock is back as narrator and executive producer of the new series, which, like the original, is inspired by the comedian’s teenage years.




CBS Studios and 3 Arts Entertainment, which produced "Everybody Hates Chris" and originally developed the animated reboot, will produce with MTV Entertainment Studios, which has been ramping up its adult animation portfolio.

Sanjay Shah (South Park, Central Park) serves as showrunner and wrote the pilot script.

Comedy Central's animated take on Rock's autobiographical 2006-2009 The CW comedy Everybody Hates Chris has set its main voice cast. Rock will return as narrator as the adult Chris. Crews and Arnold will reprise their roles as Chris' parents Julius and Rochelle. New cast members include Tim Johnson Jr. as Chris, Ozioma Akagha as Chris' feisty baby sister Tonya, Terrence Little Gardenhigh as golden child Drew and Gunnar Sizemore as Chris' only friend at school. “I’m very excited to introduce the world to another funny side of my childhood,” Rock said in a statement. On the original Everybody Hates Chris, Tyler James Williams played young Chris, while Imani Hakim played Tonya, Tequan Richmond portrayed Drew and Vincent Martella played Greg.
