A "Criminal Minds" Revival is Already Being Eyed at Paramount+
"Criminal Minds" Revival in Early Development at Paramount+
by Michael Ausiello February 19, 2021 Just a year after concluding its 15-season run on CBS, "Criminal Minds" is slinking out of the TV graveyard. TVLine has learned that upstart streamer Paramount+ is looking to revive the killer procedural via a limited event series (that sources say could also once again become an ongoing series). Insiders caution that the project remains in its infancy and no deals have been completed. https://tvline.com/2021/02/19/crimin...aramount-plus/ |

Paramount+'s Criminal Minds revival would track a singular case through one season
The potential reboot would feature a mix of past Criminal Minds characters and new ones. Paramount+ developing docuseries The Real Criminal Minds Not only is a Criminal Minds revival in the works at Paramount+, but the ViacomCBS streamer is eyeing a docuseries inspired by the 15-year CBS crime drama. "Tentatively titled The Real Criminal Minds, the true-crime docuseries will feature a real former FBI profiler," per Deadline. "It will examine real cases and real criminal behavior, illustrated by clips from the fictional Criminal Minds series. Talks are ongoing, but I hear the idea is for a prominent Criminal Minds cast member to host the program. Paramount+ originally mentioned its intention to explore a true crime show with a Criminal Minds connection in the streamer’s inaugural slate." |

"Criminal Minds" Star Paget Brewster Says Revival is "Likely Dead"
by Michael Ausiello July 30, 2021 It appears Paramount+’s in-the-works "Criminal Minds" revival is on the verge of getting toe tagged. Paget Brewster announced on social media Thursday that the project is knocking on the Grim Reaper’s door. “Sadly, we think it’s dead,” she declared on Twitter in response to a fan’s query about the status of the project. “I’ll let you know if there is any progress, but it seems unlikely. Which is a bummer.” https://tvline.com/2021/07/30/crimin...aget-brewster/ |

Paramount+'s Criminal Minds revival is still in the works
Despite Paget Brewster saying last summer that the Season 16 revival is likely dead, ViacomCBS chief programming officer Tanya Gills said at the TV press tour: “We are still very much in development on Criminal Minds. We’ll have more to share soon on that, but it is alive and well.” Six Criminal Minds alums are in talks to return for Paramount+'s revival Deadline reports Joe Mantegna, Kirsten Vangsness, Adam Rodriguez, A.J. Cook, Aisha Tyler and Paget Brewster have agreed to come back, subject to closing their deals and availability. "I hear finalizing the sextet’s contracts has been put on hold as Criminal Minds lead studio, ABC Signature, moved to make a deal with the series’ longtime executive producer/showrunner Erica Messer," reports Deadline's Nellie Andreeva. "Negotiations with Messer, who has an overall pact with the studio, are still ongoing, with the two sides getting closer but still not close enough for a deal to be imminent, sources said. Meanwhile, I hear that a license agreement for a 10-episode new season of Criminal Minds has been reached between Paramount+ and the studios behind the crime drama, ABC Signature and CBS Studios. (A license deal with the network/platforms as well as pacts with showrunner(s) and the cast are all necessary elements for a series to go forward.)" |

Criminal Minds stars reunite, hinting that they're ready for Paramount+'s revival
Kirsten Vangsness teased the potential revival with a photo on Instagram featuring former co-stars Aisha Tyler, Paget Brewster, Joe Mantegna, A. J. Cook and Adam Rodriguez. Vangsness captioned the photo: "Hi @paramountplus I had an Exceptional Evening with these Excellent Eggs last night and I wanted to let you to know we are fun & interesting & rad to hang out with & also we are ever so appreciative that Erica Messer is a genius who makes the crime doughnuts in the most singular way." A month ago, Deadline reported that six former cast members were in talks to reprise their Criminal Minds roles. |
