Default Grey's Anatomy: Why Season 1 Was The Best Season Of The Show

https://screenrant.com/greys-anatomy...n-of-the-show/

Quote:
10
Less Number Of Episodes

Sometimes when the seasons of a show have too many episodes, some storylines get stretched and there is not enough drama to keep it going. Or in the case of Grey's, there ends up being one tragedy too many.

With the first season, the 9 episode long season kept things short and sweet. The lesser number of episodes allowed for the first season to be filled with just the right amount of drama and character development without boring the audience.

9
Setting Up Of The Story

The medical premise of the show and the backstories of the characters are quickly set up in season 1. While there is a lot the viewers don't know yet, the first season does an excellent job of setting up the characters and each storyline, giving viewers an extremely vivid taste of things to come.

For instance, Meredith's past is talked about in bits over the course of the first season. The ways of the hospital and the significant matters relating to each character are also briefly set up.

8
Meredith & Derek

The very first scene of the very first episode of season 1 opens with Meredith Grey and Derek Shepherd. They introduce themselves to each other, and the viewers are hooked right from then.

What's more, there is incredible chemistry between these two characters, which makes it very easy to root for them. It's not surprising that they were set up as the main romance of the show.

7
Pacing

Season 1 perfected a rhythm for Grey's Anatomy. There was a concise way in which the daily hospital life was intertwined with the personal life of the characters.

It wasn't too fast, or too slow. There was the right amount of things happening that kept viewers well engaged with the show. Interesting patients, fascinating medicine, and tumultuous personal drama all came together to give season 1 the right pacing.

6
Female Perspective

Season 1 is told almost entirely through the perspective of the main female characters on the show. There is a clear female perspective that Grey's has that makes it the extremely special show it is.

With so many smart women competing and cooperating, the first season of Grey's brought to television a whole different paradigm of the female perspective.

5
The Cast

Ellen Pompeo, Sandra Oh, Chandra Wilson, Katherine Heigl, Patrick Dempsey, all became instant stars with the first season of Grey's Anatomy. Ellen Pompeo is currently the highest-paid female actress on television and she has been the central character Grey's has revolved around from the very first season.

The cast in the first season also included T.R Knight, Justin Chambers, James Pickens Jr., and Kate Burton. They were a talented lot who really lived these roles.

4
No Repeated Storylines

Over the span of the 17 seasons of the show, there are many plots and storylines that have inadvertently been repeated on Grey's Anatomy. That is not the case in the first season.

Vastly original and fresh, Grey's was full of exciting and intriguing storylines in the first season - including forbidden romances, life-changing surgeries, and unpredictable events.

3
Fun Romantic Entanglements

The romantic relationships introduced in the first season were not weighed down with baggage, unlike the other seasons. They were shiny and new and brought a lot of excitement.

Meredith and Derek, Cristina and Burke, are two new couples that were at the beginning of their long-winded relationships in the first season. The fun element was on an all-time high with respect to romance in the first season.

2
The Interns

No other set of interns have invoked such love and affection from fans, as the first set of interns introduced on season 1. Grey's has tried time and again to introduce a similar cohort, but never have fans taken to any set as a whole the same way they did with the interns from season 1.

George, Izzie, Cristina, Meredith, and Alex were the dream team. With Bailey as their leader, the interns made even routine work look extremely interesting.

1
The Twist At The End

Addison's arrival at the end of season 1 was incredible. It was a twist that was totally unexpected. But it was not a high stakes, life or death situation. The cliff hanger that season 1 ended on was amazing because of this. It was on a small-scale, but drastically affected the characters on the show and that's why the ending of season 1 was ideal.

Season 1 really utilized the hospital setting and the hectic lives of medical professionals and centered the show on that premise. And so, the ending of the show also was an interesting way to disrupt the calmness.
