It's so odd to see the second season of Doctor Who correctly called out as a stand-out season, but for all the wrong reasons. Season 2 successfully transitioned from the original cast (Susan/Barbara/Ian) to fresh replacements (Vicki and Steven). Peter Purves and Maureen O'Brien were wonderful replacements, the old companions got dignified farewells (quite unlike later seasons' senseless departures), the Doctor's icy exterior thaws a bit under Vicki, the storylines feel more slick, and they had moved away from the original concept and were now introducing the Doctor's people (starting with the Monk).
