Peter Engel vs. Dan Schneider

Peter Engel you could say, was the closest equivalent to Dan Schneider during the '90s. What I mean is that they were pretty much the most high profile executive producers of teen sitcoms of the era. They in a nutshell, specialized in producing (on a fast turn-around schedule) manufactured "tweencoms" that cast pretty teen actors to be idols with tons of merchandise and even a singing career and. And they prioritized the marketing aspect over the storytelling and character development.

Besides of course, Saved by the Bell/Saved by the Bell: The New Class, Engel had California Dreams, Hang Time, City Guys, and his non-NBC sitcoms USA High and Malibu, CA. Just like Peter Engel, it's perhaps easy to argue that Dan Schneider's Nickelodeon shows (Drake & Josh, Zoey 101, iCarly, Victorious, Sam & Cat, Henry Danger, Game Shakers) were also derivative and got worse and worse with each installment.

Engel. Saved by the bell defined the 90's. I am also a fan of his other shows like California Dreams City Guys USA High Malibu CA. I also do like Drake and Josh from Schneider

I never got into the shows Dan Schneider created, but he was good in Head of the Class. I used to watch Peter Engel's TNBC Saturday morning block when it had Saved by the Bell: the New Class, Hang Time, One World, and City Guys. But today I have no interest in Saved by the Bell, generally a dumb show I don't care to watch anymore. Its theme song is good though.
