What changes would YOU have made to the show so that it might be better and more remembered today?

I would have ended it after Season 5. The replacements, in retrospect, didn't work out as well as the producers had hoped. And I say that as someone who likes Jan and Julia. Julia was terrific as the snobby maid Stephanie on Newhart, but there was something off about her portrayal as Allison. I've never quite understood why.

Both new characters were poorly conceived, though Julia Duffy had the tougher role to play. It would have been a tall order to replace one of the main characters, let alone two. And these were the two best: Suzanne was the comic center of the show, and Charlene was the heart and soul of the show (Jean Smart was so underrated). The original four had such great chemistry; how could they replicate that when replacing half of them?

In retrospect, I agree that it would have been better just to end the series after the fifth season (and Delta Burke's departure). The sixth season had its' moments, but as I've said, Allison was too unlikeable. And the less I say about the seventh season, the better. |

It was like MASH - it got way too preachy in later years.

Too much damage had been done. It wasn’t fixable.
