These days, Netflix releases many great teen romantic comedies, and back in the 2000s, movies like 10 Things I Hate About You were the finest of the genre. Telling the tale of two very different sisters who had different ideas about falling in love, this movie has it all, from parties to cheesy jokes to dated fashion. Many members of the cast went on to have long careers and are still working in Hollywood today.

Some teenage romantic comedy pairs are better than others and it's fun to see who falls in love with who in this funny teen movie. If this hilarious and quirky romantic comedy was cast in 2020, there are some actors who would be perfect as these characters.

Ms. Perky: Tiffany Haddish

Allison Janney has incredible TV and film roles under her belt and watching her as the hilarious high school receptionist Ms. Perky was so much fun.

Tiffany Haddish as the comedic chops necessary to portray this character, who spent more time yelling at the students and writing a romance (read: erotic) novel than actually doing her job.

Walter Stratford: Ed O'Neill

While Ed O'Neill's Modern Family character Jay may be confusing, he's the patriarch who often gets annoyed with everyone around him, and that's exactly what Mr. Stratford (Larry Miller) is like.

Since these two characters have a lot in common, O'Neill would be a good choice to portray him if the movie was cast today. There's nothing funnier than watching Walter come up with his great plan to keep his daughters from dating.

Joey Donner: Cole Sprouse

Cole Sprouse couldn't be more perfectly cast as Jughead Jones on popular teen drama Riverdale. The other characters are mean to Jughead and he's always a sympathetic character.

Sprouse would be a great choice to play Andrew Keegan's 10 Things I Hate About You character Joey Donner. It would be fun to see Sprouse in this role, since Joey is so full of himself that he doesn't even notice when someone has gotten tired of him and walked away.

Chastity Church: Janel Parrish

Janel Parrish would be a good casting choice for Gabrielle Union's character, Chastity, who is best friends with Bianca.

Parrish excelled as Mona Vanderwaal on Pretty Little Liars as she veered between good and evil on a regular basis. Chastity seems nice enough to Bianca at first, but she's ultimately very conceited and only thinks about what will make her happy. It would be fun to see this actress play Bianca's popular friend.

Mandella: Jurnee Smollett

Susan May Pratt's 10 Things I Hate About You character, Mandella, is best pals with cynical and smart Kat Stratford. The two are perfectly matched best friends because they hate the same things (namely, school dances and anything else associated with being pretty and popular).

Jurnee Smollett would be awesome as this character if the movie was cast today. The actress brings a strong and calming presence to any role, whether playing a campaign manager on Parenthood or a teenage girl on Friday Night Lights. Smollett has acted in a lot of TV shows so it would be cool to see her in a movie.

Michael Eckman: Joe Keery

David Krumholtz played Michael perfectly, as he's a total nerd who becomes friends with Cameron and teaches him all about the social circles at Padua High School.

Everyone loved watching Steve and Dustin hang out together on Stranger Things, and the actor who portrays Steve would be great as Michael. He's charming and adorable but would be believable as a character who is an outsider.

Patrick Verona: Henry Golding

Rebellious heartthrob Patrick Verona steals Kat's black heart, even though she swears that she would never fall in love and especially not with a high school boy.

Heath Ledger was flawless in this role and it's considered one of his most famous. Henry Golding would be a great casting choice as he's been a leading man in many movies, from Crazy Rich Asians to Last Christmas, and he has a caring and compassionate quality to him just like Patrick.

Cameron James: Michael B. Jordan

Joseph Gordon-Levitt's 10 Things I Hate About You character could be played by Michael B. Jordan if the teen movie was cast today.

A beloved actor who has been in both movies and TV shows, Michael B. Jordan shows that he has a lot of heart. His time on Parenthood and Friday Night Lights proved that he could play characters who wear their emotions on their sleeve, and Cameron is a sensitive guy who falls for Bianca and doesn't know how to play the dating game.

Kat Stratford: Victoria Pedretti

Julia Stiles starred in many 2000's romantic comedies and playing Kat Stratford brought her a lot of attention. Kat is one of the best teen movie characters ever, as she's stubborn, sarcastic, and more intelligent than anyone around her.

Victoria Pedretti has been amazing everyone with her acting talent on TV shows The Haunting Of Hill House and You (and also more recently on The Haunting Of Bly Manor). She can be emotional but also tough, and she could bring those qualities to Kat, who is more sensitive than she wants people to think.

It's common for teen shows to feature popular girls and Larisa Oleynik's character is the most beautiful and beloved student in 10 Things I Hate About You.

AJ Michalka, known for playing Lainey Lewis on The Goldbergs, could definitely take on Bianca's bubbly and sometimes innocent personality. Lainey is a similar character, as she's sure of herself but vulnerable at all the right moments.
