Default Tim Burton is shopping a new TV revival of The Addams Family

https://deadline.com/2020/10/tim-bur...es-1234601840/

The acclaimed director is poised to work on his first major live-action TV series with a reboot of the satirical inversion of the ideal 20th-century family that American cartoonist Charles Addams in 1938 that inspired several TV series and movies, reports Deadline. Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar will write the series and serve as showrunners, while Burton will executive produce and potentially direct. MGM Television is shopping the potential series, with Netflix among the bidders. "While not confirmed, sources say the new live-action series would be set in present times and be from the perspective of Wednesday Addams and what the world would look like to her in 2020," reports Deadline's Justin Kroll, adding: "The pairing of Burton and The Addams Family would be a perfect fit as the dark themes of the spooky clan line up so perfectly with what you see in classic Burton films like Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands. Burton clearly has interest in series with dark comedic themes, having also adapted the ’70s series Dark Shadows into a feature film starring Johnny Depp." Burton's previous TV work includes an animated series based on his 1988 film Beetlejuice that ran from 1989 to 1991. The Addams Family was turned into a TV series four times, most famously as a 1964-66 ABC sitcom, plus two animated series in the 1970s and 1990s. The 1998 live-action revival The New Addams Family lasted one season.

I'm afraid it would be another dark and "modern" take like the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which I have no interest in seeing. I miss the light-hearted charm of the original TV show and an Addams house that isn't crumbling down.

Netflix Wins Tim Burton’s ‘Addams Family’ TV Series ‘Wednesday’

Quote:
The Addams Family, for those unaware, is about a fictional household that was first seen back in the 1930s in comic strip form. Over the decades, the IP has been adapted into films (both live-action and animated) as well as TV, video games, and musical productions.

Now fast forward a few months it looks as though Netflix has officially won the bidding war to the series and is scheduled to go into production this summer with no release window announced just yet. If we had to guess, it won’t be on Netflix until 2022 at the very earliest.

MGM TV is the production studio ultimately behind the series but Netflix will carry the global distribution rights.

Season 1 of Wednesday is set to be eight hour-long episodes.

We can also reveal what the series will be about. Here are some early details including the logline for the series which follows:

“Wednesday Addams misadventures as a student at Nevermore Academy: a very unique boarding school snuggled in deepest New England.” The first season (it’s currently unclear whether Netflix ordered multiple seasons upfront) will follow Wednesday Addams at boarding school where she’s learning to master her growing set of abilities all the while solving a murder mystery, going up against a new growing evil threat, and battling with her various new relationships around the school of Nevermore.

Wednesday Addams (the lead role expected to be Latino or Hispanic) will be aged between 18-20 and the show will also feature Gomez Addams and Morticia Addams who you’ll be familiar with if you’ve watched the movies or read the comics. No cast members have been revealed yet.

As the show is set in a boarding/high school setting, the vast majority of the rest of the cast will be teens. Among the supporting characters for the series include Enid Sinclair, Tyler Galpin, Yoko Tanaka, Xavier Thorpe, Eugene Ottley, Ajax Petropolis, Principal Larissa Weems, Tamara Novak, and Bianca Barclay.

Jon Glickman, Andrew Mittman, and Gail Berman are attached as executive producers.

Well, he's already ruined Dark Shadows, Willy Wonka, Planet of the Apes, Sweeney Todd, Batman, Sleepy Hollow, Alice in Wonderland and more so why stop now?

Hmmm, I never knew Morticia and/or Gomez were Latino/Hispanic.

Maybe they adopted Wednesday and we never knew it (they could have a flashback episode explaining what government official allowed them to adopt a kid).

Thora Birch Departs Netflix’s "Wednesday" for Personal Reasons
by Nellie Andreeva
Dec. 9, 2021

Thora Birch has exited "Wednesday", Tim Burton’s live-action Addams Family series for Netflix.

Thora has returned to the States to attend to a personal matter and will not be returning to the production,” a rep for series producer MGM said in a statement to Deadline.

According to sources, Birch is dealing with a family illness.

I hear Birch had finished filming the bulk of her series regular role as Tamara Novak, Wednesday’s dorm mother and the only “Normie” on staff at Nevermore Academy with a focus on all things botanical.

The role will not be recast, with producers looking to add a new character to the show’s first season, I hear. It is unclear whether that character will take over for Tamara and help close out her planned storyline with both of them co-existing on the show or whether the new character will replace Tamara and Birch’s scenes will be reshot.

There is a Youtube series of short videos (maybe under ten minutes long each) of an adult Wednesday Addams living in the World. There are about six of these and they are mostly humourous. Just type in "Wednesday Addams" and enjoy.
