"Last Man Standing" to End with 9th Season
Tim Allen Comedy "Last Man Standing" to End with Season 9 on Fox
by Peter White October 14, 2020 "Last Man Standing" is coming to an end, again. The Fox comedy will end with its upcoming ninth season, which will premiere on the network in January. It marks the second time that the sitcom has come to an end; the show, which is produced by 20th Television, ran for six seasons on ABC and was axed in 2017. Fox, which at the time was part of the same corporation as the studio that made it, picked it up for a seventh season that premiered in September 2018. Deadline understands that the show will start filming season nine this week. “I’ve been one lucky dude to have been part of Last Man Standing,” said series star Tim Allen. “I so appreciate the incredible support from our fans over this near decade of work. As we approach the ninth season, I just admire and feel grateful for all the hard work our wonderful cast and crew have done. We had all considered to end the show after last season, but together with Fox, we decided to add a year so we could produce a full season to create the gentle and fun goodbye. I’m looking forward to a memorable and hilarious final season.” https://deadline.com/2020/10/last-ma...-9-1234597356/ |

Wow, so Last Man Standing decided to pull-up a chair in television heaven after next year, huh? LMS had the impressive task of airing a full season from January to May (which few other shows have done), but it derailed by the COVID pandemic, and one episode of LMS's season 8 was left unproduced. Because of the mass production shutdown last March, I was hoping for at least two more seasons of LMS, so there'd be four on FOX-TV, including having the ninth year also be a full season starting in the first week of January.
At least LMS is going out on FAR better terms than it was let go by ABC Network, and with a sufficiently increase syndication package to boot. Plus, I didn't know ending LMS after last year had been considered, either. |

Too bad. I think they could have done more with the show in the years to come

I think another reason for Last Man Standing's decision to end is because the FOX Network is no longer part of the same corporation as the studio that produces it (20th Century Fox Television), thanks to the (ill-advised and just downright inexcusable) sale of the Fox production assets to the Walt Disney Company in the Spring of 2019.

"Last Man Standing" Twist: Final Season will Kick Off with Time Jump
by Ryan Schwartz November 10, 2020 Mike Baxter will be plotting his second act when "Last Man Standing" kicks off its ninth and final season. Fox on Tuesday teased new details about the long-running family comedy’s farewell run, including a brief time jump and a big decision for Outdoor Man’s director of marketing. The official logline reads as follows: "After the events of the eighth season finale, during which Kristin (Amanda Fuller) went into labor with her baby daughter, while Mandy (Molly McCook) was pregnant with her first child, the series will jump ahead into the near future, when Mike and his wife, Vanessa (Nancy Travis), will contemplate their own future, including Mike’s imminent retirement from his lifelong job at Outdoor Man – and who could be his successor." https://tvline.com/2020/11/10/last-m...mike-retiring/ |

Oh Good! Now's the important time for Tim Allen to return and continue appearing in more movies as much as possible!
