The Public Broadcasting Service, which launched 50 years ago Sunday, is one of the rare things in America that is still universally popular. "Although the coronavirus pandemic has canceled in-person celebrations, and a racial reckoning and bitter presidential election make for a somber national mood, something feels proper about PBS reaching this milestone at this moment," says Alyssa Rosenberg. "At a time of much-discussed divisions, PBS is a unifying thread running through our fraying cultural fabric. Polling shows the resilience of the reputation PBS has built over the past five decades. Some 68 percent of respondents told YouGov between August 2019 and August 2020 that they have a positive opinion of PBS, making the service more popular than awards-dominating HBO and putting it on the heels of streaming giant Netflix. A Pew Research Center study on polarization and the American media published in January found that PBS is one of just three outlets — from among 30 choices — trusted by Americans of both parties more than they distrust it." When PBS began life as National Educational Television also known as NET it's main mission was and still is to bring an educational station that meant to teach everyone through shows that taught subjects such as history life science and have additional programming that appealed to everyone like world news and cooking shows and home improvement shows. And when NET rebranded itself as PBS it has remained a staple in homes ever since. With shows such as Nature the science oriented NOVA and shows such as Antiques Roadshow PBS has no sign of slowing down and with children's shows such as Sesame Street and others PBS still keeps it's family oriented image. It's no secret that PBS is still going strong with it's many spin-off channels and accompanying apps and with competition with Cable In The Classroom there's just no stopping PBS from still being number one in TV

Hi, Bestie! I do not watch PBS very much. It is too political for me. I hate that ax dollars are spent only showing one side of an issue. I do watch Antiques Roadshow though.
