Even though Comedy Central renewed Drunk History for a 16-episode Season 7 last year, the sketch comedy series will end with Season 6, which finished airing in August 2019 and which is up for three Emmys next month: Outstanding Variety Sketch series, Outstanding Costumes and Production Design. Drunk History's cancelation and the recent move of The Other Two and South Side to HBO Max means there will only be one remaining original live-action series on Comedy Central: Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens. Comedy Central has been moving away from live-action programming while shifting its focus to adult animation. "Season 7 of Drunk History was in pre-production and taping some of the comedian narrations when the coronavirus pandemic put a halt to all film and TV production activities in mid-March," report Deadline's Anthony D'Alessandro and Nellie Andreeva, who add: "We hear the high costs of producing Drunk History, which features elaborate period reenactments, also played a role in the decision not to proceed with another season." |
