David Henrie reveals Selena Gomez is 'down' for a reboot of their hit sitcom

After Selena Gomez briefly reunited with her former Wizards of Waverly Place's co-star David Henrie last week, the cast has announced they're 'down' for a reboot.

After discussing his experience working with Gregg Sulkin again on their upcoming romantic comedy, the 31-year-old director gushed about the possibility of bringing back their hit Disney Channel sitcom, which aired from 2007 to 2012.

'I mean there's nothing happening yet, but there's a lot of talk. We all talk about it for fun, you know, nothing official, but we all talk about it,' Henrie revealed on Access Hollywood.

Sulkin added: 'That show will always hold such a special place in our heart, and that feeling and love for one another and that show will never ever go away.'

When Henrie was directly asked what he would want to see in the reboot, he revealed he and Sulkin, Gomez and Jake T. Austin have brainstormed multiple plot ideas.

What made the show special was that we were a family and the family stuck together, he noted. 'So I think, the great place to start the show would be the opposite version of that.'

Some of his suggestions included the characters living apart and navigating their own careers and families.

While he noted his character, Justin, would most likely be at WizTech or raising a family, he said Alex (Gomez) would be the 'Meryl Streep of the Wizarding World.'

As for how to incorporate Sulkin, who played Alex's love interest Mason Greyback, Henrie believes their relationship would have to be rekindled.

'Everyone would be down, but it's just the matter of timing, I think,' Henrie said. 'And Disney, we have to talk to them too.'

Sulkin and Henrie are currently promoting their film, This Is the Year, which will have its virtual premiere on Friday, August 28.

Gomez jumped in to support her pals' project, as she encouraged her fans to watch Henrie's directorial feature debut.

Earlier this month, the pair teased the news, which sparked reunion rumors.

While neither Henrie nor Gomez would speak about what the project was at the time, Henrie noted how much he wanted to work with Gomez again to ET Now.

Wizards of Waverly Place followed the Russo family, with Gomez playing Alex Russo and Henrie playing Justin Russo.

While they may be an ordinary family with an average restaurant, behind closed doors, all three children must compete to be the next family wizard.

The show ran for four seasons over 106 episodes, between 2007 and 2012, when the show went off the air.
