I get that since it was a spin-off of The Goldbergs they had little choice. What I mean is you could've done a show in the same setting and premise (i.e. Lainey going back to her old high school to become a music teacher) in the present day, and it would've virtually made little difference. Outside of musical soundtrack and lip-service being paid to the popular movies of the day, Schooled if you ask me, didn't need to be the '90s counterpart to The Goldbergs and its depiction of the '80s.
This comes into question whether or not Schooled was really necessary or it just felt like a way for the network milk a prospective cash cow like The Goldbergs. The Goldbergs was inspired and influenced by the real Adam F. Goldberg's experiences growing. I know that the school faculty that were depicted on Schooled were based on real people too, but again it could've been about anybody and it wouldn't have made much of a difference in my estimation. |
