over George Floyd protests
https://www.accessonline.com/article...-to-start-over "We’ve had a lot of somber talks about it and deep conversations and we hope through this we’re going to make something that will be truly groundbreaking this year," Crews told Access Hollywood. "We have an opportunity and we plan to use it in the best way possible. Our show-runner Dan Goor, they had four episodes all ready to go and they just threw them in the trash. We have to start over. Right now we don’t know which direction it’s going to go in.” |

Andy Samberg admits it's "definitely a challenge" portraying cops on Brooklyn Nine-Nine in wake of police brutality protests
"We're taking a step back, and the writers are all rethinking how we're going to move forward, as well as the cast," Samberg tells People. "We're all in touch and kind of discussing how you make a comedy show about police right now, and if we can find a way of doing that that we all feel morally okay about." He adds: "I know that we'll figure it out, but it's definitely a challenge, so we'll see how it goes." |

Andre Braugher weighs in on how cop shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine will change in wake of George Floyd protests
The Brooklyn Nine-Nine star and Homicide alum tells EW's The Awardist podcast of the backlash to cop shows in wake of the recent Black Lives Matter protests: "It's a very complicated subject, but I think they have to be portrayed much more realistically, in terms of this: The convention... that police breaking the law is okay because somehow it's in the service of some greater good, is a myth that needs to be destroyed," Braugher adds that Brooklyn Nine-Nine will also need to grapple with the reality of widespread police misconduct moving forward. "We're going into an eighth season with a new challenge which is that everyone's knowledge and feelings about police... have been profoundly affected," he says. "What we have from (creator) Dan (Goor) is a commitment to write a smart show that will not attempt to hide itself in a fantasy. So the Nine-Nine is going to have to deal with what we know about the New York Police Department." |
