Did Skippy have Aspergers? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I am convinced that Skippy was on the Autism Spectrum. He was socially awkward, and acted inappropriate. Did the writers deliberately make his character seem like he had Aspergers, or was it coincidental?

It may have likely been coincidental because Asperger syndrome didn't become a standard diagnoses (at least according to the World Health Organization) until about 1992
