ESPN tapped Washington University sports business professor Patrick Rishe to examine the cost of the sports shutdown due to the coronavirus. According to his findings, "the sudden disappearance of sports will erase at least $12 billion in revenue and hundreds of thousands of jobs, an economic catastrophe that will more than double if the college football and NFL schedules are wiped out this fall by the coronavirus pandemic, an analysis conducted for ESPN shows. The meltdown is a fraction of the crisis spreading across the country, but it is nonetheless historic, touching every sector of the $100 billion United States sports industry."

Cost-conscious ESPN is unlikely to seek an expensive big name for Monday Night Football

Before the coronavirus crisis, ESPN was reportedly willing to shell out big bucks for Peyton Manning. But with revenues declining, ESPN is likely to go in-house for Monday Night Football talent, reports Front Office Sports. Meanwhile, ESPN has hired Phil Dean to be Monday Night Football's new producer. He takes over for Jay Rothman, who had been producer of MNF since it moved to ESPN in 2006.

WHY should we care about BILLIONAIRE owners & MILLIONAIRE players?? They have it FAR FAR better than we do even if ALL sports were cancelled till 2021!!

I don't really miss the sports as much as I thought I would. I was looking forward to the NHL playoffs and the start of baseball season, but it is what it is. I don't rely on just sports for entertainment, I have other things to watch.

There's nothing "good" about any of it. Yes major league athletes make a lot of money, but the support staff do not. Neither do the hotel and restaurant owners and employees who depend on sports fans for their revenue.

Yes...this panicdemic almost caused The Greater Depression! Basketball and Hockey are gonna polish-up this season, sadly The Boston Marathon will be virtual, and I dunno about baseball this year...however...I'm damn certain the NFL will have an uninterrupted season!
