Sam Lloyd, known for iconic ‘Scrubs’ role, dead at 56

Sam Lloyd, known for his role as Ted Buckland on “Scrubs,” died of a brain tumor Thursday evening.
Doctors discovered in 2019 that Lloyd had an inoperable brain tumor that had metastasized from his lungs, according to Entertainment Weekly. Kevin Turner, a representative for Lloyd, told The Hollywood Reporter that he died Thursday night.
Lloyd was in 95 episodes of “Scrubs" and reprised the role on a season finale of “Cougar Town.” He also appeared in over two dozen television shows including “Modern Family,” “Night Court,” and “Seinfeld.” Lloyd is the nephew of Christopher Lloyd.

Friends and fans reached out on social media after learning of his death to remember the actor.

Scrubs' Fans Mourn Actor Sam Lloyd After His Death Following Cancer Battle

Fans of Sam Lloyd have been taking to social media to mourn his death. The beloved character actor, arguably best known for playing lawyer Ted Buckland on Scrubs, died Friday at the age of 56. He'd been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and lung cancer last year, which came just weeks after his first child was born.

Following his diagnosis, the family set up a GoFundMe to help them pay for medical expenses. In March, organizer Tim Hobart provided an updated to the actor's condition. "Sam is preparing for a new fight. A fight that will come with bigger challenges. So please send Sam all of your prayers and positive energy. He continues to read all of your posts and he is overwhelmed by the incredible love that has come his way from around the world."

Following news of Lloyd's death, Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence addressed the tragedy on Twitter. "Thinking a lot about Sam Lloyd today. (Ted)," he wrote. "Truly such a kind, sweet guy. He will be missed by so many." Lawrence was soon joined by the legions of scrubs fans to mourn the actor, specifically for his role as the chain-smoking lawyer in the medical comedy.

Donald Faison and Zach Braff pay tribute to late co-star Sam Lloyd on their Scrubs podcast

“Hey guys, It’s Zach and Donald here. We have a bit of bad news,” Faison began their podcast, Fake Doctors, Real Friends on Tuesday, before telling their fans about Lloyd’s passing. “For me this is heartbreaking. Sam was a very, very amazing person.” Braff recalled seeing Lloyd, who was battling cancer, in the past six months. He looked great, he looked amazing,” Braff said, noting that he didn’t bring up his cancer battle because he wasn’t sure if he wanted to talk about it. “He just looked fully recovered.”

Zach Braff criticizes the Primetime Emmys for leaving out Scrubs star Sam Lloyd

Braff tweeted criticism of the Emmys this morning for not including his friend, Broadway star Nick Cordero, who barely worked in TV. "I had no idea one had to campaign to get their loved one in. We did. They passed," he said. The Emmys responded that "with so many people passing in any given year, we simply cannot ensure any particular individual is included." Braff noted that Lloyd, who died of a brain tumor in May, was excluded even though "he had more TV credits than most actors I know."
