The NBA's Board of Governors spent Wednesday debating whether to suspend the season or play in front of empty arenas. But shortly after the news that Utah Jazz player Rudy Gobert tested positive for coronavirus, the NBA has decided to suspend the season after the conclusion of tonight's games. The NBA "will use hiatus to determine next steps moving forward," the league says.

The National Hockey League and Major League Soccer have joined the NBA in suspending their seasons, effective immediately. "Our goal is to resume play as soon as it is appropriate and prudent, so that we will be able to complete the season and award the Stanley Cup," the NHL said in a statement. UPDATE: Major League Baseball cancels spring training, postpones the start of the regular season by at least two weeks.

NCAA cancels men's and women's basketball tournaments

The NCAA has officially canceled March Madness. The last time the NCAA tournament wasn't played was 1938. The tourney has been held every year since, including during World War II.
