In this clip, John Amos opens up about auditioning for Good Times and Esther Rolle knowing that he was the person to play her husband on the show during the audition. John went on to speak about his close professional relationship with Esther and the great respect he had for the late actress. In this clip, John Amos speaks about the serious topics that were covered on "Good Times' and there being no Black writers on the show, which caused a lot of friction. John explained that he vocalized how the Black family was being portrayed, which he felt wasn't rooted in reality, which led to him being fired from the show. The show's creator, Norman Lear, called John to explain that he couldn't have him threatening the writers, which you can hear more about above.
