The Beverly Hills, 90210 revival series was picked up a six-episode summer event series earlier this year. After a strong premiere on Aug. 7, viewership kept tumbling week after week. About 50% of the premiere audience stuck around for the season finale. BH90210 was created by original Beverly Hills, 90210 stars Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling along with writers Mike Chessler and Chris Alberghini. As The Hollywood Reporter's Lesley Goldberg notes, "the series suffered creative issues before its premiere, with a showrunner change and multiple writers quitting over the course of the short season as Spelling and Garth were said to want the revival to have a tone similar to Curb Your Enthusiasm. (Sources say 13 writers quit the series throughout its run.)" She adds that BH90210 was "relatively inexpensive" to make, especially with its stars earning relatively low pay for a reboot of a beloved franchise.

The actress pointed out Thursday night that technically Fox didn't pick up a second season of the Beverly Hills, 90210 revival. "I actually have to say, you might be surprised. Some things are happening so we'll see," she teased to ET. "I think that it was such an incredible journey and that's why I don't think this is it," she added. I actually enjoy watching it streaming on Hulu. I think this is a show that would do better as a streaming series that got renewed again in another small set of episode season, than on Fox broadcast during the summer.

TV reboots should be canceled: They've become disorienting

From BH90210 to Four Weddings and a Funeral, from The Twilight Zone to El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, 2019 has been a reboot-filled year. "There’s so much nostalgia fodder, it’s no longer special or particularly novel," says Rich Juzwiak. "It’s just disorienting. It’s making the past and present bleed into each other."

Why am I not surprised? I don't know why they keep trying to remake shows thinking that the remakes will make them even better.

Jason Priestley on BH90210 finding a new home: "I don't think that's going to happen"

Priestley tells ET he doesn't expect the canceled Fox Beverly Hills, 90210 revival to be revived somewhere else. "Unfortunately it's not the first TV series I've been on that's been canceled, and it probably won't be the last," he said, adding: "We certainly set the show up to continue. Unfortunately it just didn't come to pass. But we certainly had our fun making the episodes, and it was nice to work with that group of people again. I guess it was what it was."
