Kurt Sutter Fired by FX after Multiple Complaints of "Abrasive Behavior"

Kurt Sutter‘s long relationship with FX has run out of gas. The "Sons of Anarchy" creator has been fired by the cable network in light of multiple complaints about his behavior on the spin-off "Mayans M.C.", according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Sutter sent a letter to the "Mayans" cast and crew following his dismissal in which he describes himself as “an abrasive dick” and apologizes, adding that “my arrogance and chronic distraction has created wreckage.”

But further details on the specific complaints against him have not yet been made public.

"Bottom line, I created the circumstances that led to my being forced out," the Sons of Anarchy creator and Mayans MC co-creator tells Deadline. "I overestimated my value and underestimated the unf*ckability of the mouse. I feel the way they expedited and qualified the move, was unfair, but the truth is, it was not a good fit and I had to go." Of his relationship with Disney souring, Sutter recalled "it all started with a joke" with him writing a line for J.D. Pardo's EZ saying, "Guess this is where Walt buried all the Jews he had killed" in response to a Disneyland comment. "So when I was informed that the Walt, Jew killing line had to go, I agreed and changed it to…We’re going to Disneyland. And now EZ says, Yeah… if Mickey and Pluto were pedophiles," says Sutter. Meanwhile, Sutter is trying to find a way to get out of his Disney deal, which still has another year left.

FX renews Mayans MC for Season 3 without co-creator Kurt Sutter

Fellow co-creator Elgin James officially takes over as showrunner for Season 3, as planned before Sutter's firing. “We’re happy to continue telling the story of Mayans MC with our partners at Fox 21 and excited that Elgin James has earned the opportunity to become the series’ showrunner,” said FX president of original programming Nick Grad in a statement. “Kurt Sutter identified and chose Elgin as his partner on the show from the outset and Elgin has been instrumental to the success of the series, leveraging his experience and creative vision to make Mayans MC with this incredible cast, crew and creative team.”
