Gavin Newsom signed into law the “Fair Pay To Play Act" last Monday, allowing the state's college athletes to strike endorsement deals and hire agents. It may turn out to be the most revolutionary game-changing legislation in college athletics since Title IX was passed in 1972, yet it went unmentioned during ESPN's College Gameday's three-hour broadcast and on Fox's Big Noon Kickoff on Saturday morning. The legislation was signed because college athletics has become a billion-dollar business with athletics unable to profit. Yet as John Walters points out, the stars of the two pregame shows make a lot from endorsements from being connected to college football.
