Kellita Smith’s Last Conversation with Bernie Mac

—Bernie passed 2 years after their show ended.

—One day, Bernie called Kellita to tell her he was going to do a comedy show at the MGM Grand arena.

—He’d been searching for a female comedienne to open for him, but hadn’t found exactly what he was looking for.

—Bernie decided to ask if she was up to the task. He told her how funny she was and that she had great comedic timing.

—Kellita was in shock and a little overwhelmed because she didn’t know if she could do it. However, she was excited and agreed to be the wingman for his show. Bernie said he and his people would help her and would write a set.

—Kellita found out that Bernie was already in the hospital when he made that call in May. He died that August.

—His death was so shocking because Bernie was such a disciplined, hard-working, loving man and it’s difficult to accept someone like him passing.
