"Grace and Frankie" To End with 7th Season
"Grace and Frankie" To End with Season 7; Will Have Most Episodes of any Netflix Original
by Peter White September 4, 2019 "Grace and Frankie" is set to end after its seventh and now final season – but not before amassing the most episodes of any Netflix original series. The digital platform has handed the Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin comedy a 16-episode run for its final season, taking the total number to 94. Fonda and Tomlin said in a statement: “We are both delighted and heartbroken that Grace and Frankie will be back for its seventh, though final, season. We’re so grateful that our show has been able to deal with issues that have really connected to our grand generation. And their kids, and amazingly, their kids as well. We’ll miss these two old gals, Grace and Frankie, as much as many of their fans will, but we’ll still be around. We’ve outlasted so many things – just hope we don’t outlast the planet.” https://deadline.com/2019/09/grace-a...al-1202710410/ |

Grace and Frankie co-creator says ending the show was not her decision: "Netflix isn’t doing long-term series anymore"
When Grace and Frankie ends next year with Season 7, it will have the distinction of being Netflix's longest-running original series with 94 total episodes (surpassing Orange Is the New Black's 91 episodes). “It was a combination of things,” Martha Kauffman says of ending the show. “Netflix isn’t doing long-term series anymore. And we are really lucky that we got the seventh season. I think when we started, we imagined seven seasons. But, really, this is the kind of decision that comes from Netflix. But as sad as I am that it’s ending, there’s something that makes sense about it.” |

Grace and Frankie deserves recognition as one of Netflix's best shows
"The conceit behind Grace and Frankie is the sitcomiest of sitcomy concepts," says Kevin Fallon. "Wild circumstances forcing cohabitation between polarized personalities is perhaps the most common elevator pitch in comedy. In this case, the wives of two law partners have no choice but to move in together after their husbands reveal they’ve been lovers for years. The women, who despise each other, grow to become unlikely best friends. But the Netflix of it all meant that there could be raunchier content and more expletives, the latter finally allowing for the kind of cathartic dialogue these powder-keg sitcom setups realistically need. No running time restrictions meant a deeper exploration of tone and emotion, skirting the 'get to the punchlines' hamminess that plagues so many comedies while allowing storylines that actually feel meaningful. And then there’s the fact that the titular Grace and Frankie aren’t the latest young blondes to emerge from pilot season, but two of the industry’s most talented actresses, who both happen to be over 80 years old." |
