Question Why did NBC cancel "Double Trouble" after two seasons?

I mean, from what I've gathered, it actually ranked #43 in its second season, which would have gotten it renewed easily a year earlier.

If I remember correctly the reason given was that the programming executives at NBC did not feel that DT really fit in with their overall programming strategy with the kind of shows they wanted to air at the time. (or something to that effect) The ratings were mediocre which may have been caused by the change in format and the less favorable time slot. I would imagine or agree with the OP that the ratings (#43) would have usually warranted a renewal though. I was real sorry to hear that it was not renewed.

I remember for one week during the initial 8 week tryout run, the series ranked number 2 among all programs for that week!

The Sagal twins were very pretty and real cute to watch.

The show couldn't attract viewers airing after Facts of Life in season 1 and Different Strokes in season 2. Natalie from Facts of Life even Guest starred in season 2 and that still didnt help.

I have been watching the episodes ever since catching the episode with Mindy Cohn.

Originally, I remembered nothing about this show: not its name, not the theme song, not the characters. But after watching most of the episodes on YouTube (I still have a few to watch), I realized I do remember a few fragments here and there.

The episode I remember best is the final episode, where the twins' dad comes to NYC. I actually remember the dramatic clash between the conservative father and the liberal aunt. However, in watching the first season, there doesn't really seem to be much that was originally conservative about the father.

Both the first season and second season casts are likeable, although I think I prefer the second season's cast over the first (which is unusual for me). Billy and Charles, who act like Lenny and Squiggy, do a good job. It's too bad we couldn't have seen the dad (and Patricia Richardson's character, Beth) more often in the second season, which would have helped unite the two seasons better. As it is, the girls clash with Beth at the end of the first season, and then we never see or hear from Beth again.

Strangely, the second season has a low-budget clip show where they flash back to the first season, which was just like eight episodes earlier. It's clear they were trying to save some money, as the twins are the only characters to appear, and they stay in their bedroom the whole episode.

In the first season, the twins are 16. In Season Two, Allison starts dating a man in his 40s, so their ages somehow got retconned. There's no way she was still 17 ten episodes after she was 16. In real life, the twins were 24.

I liked this show. I hate that it was cancelled.
