The former Extra host will replace Natalie Morales, who exited Access last April. Lopez will join Kit Hoover and Scott Evans as host on both Access Hollywood and Access Live beginning Monday, Sept. 9. In addition to his new Access role, Lopez has signed an overall deal with Universal Television and Universal Television Alternative Studio to develop and produce both scripted and unscripted content for the studios. Lopez is leaving Extra before this fall to make way for the rebooted Extra Extra, hosted by Billy Bush.

Mario Lopez reportedly brought a security team to his first visit to Access Hollywood

“There was a full-on security team escorting him throughout the office," a source told Page Six. His bodyguard wouldn’t leave his side. It was so weird. It was like he’s the (bleeping) president. And Access is on a gated lot. There’s tons of security there already." Lopez recently signed on to join Access Hollywood as a co-host after hosting Extra. He makes his Access debut on Sept. 9. A spokesperson for Lopez told Page Six Lopez "was given a ride in a golf cart to the Access building from (Universal Studios Hollywood’s) CityWalk. He was not escorted by security around the Access offices.”

Access Hollywood to air live on East Coast, adds companion show All Access

The Access brand is shaking things up, changing the name of daytime show Access Live to Access Daily while going live on the East Coast. Access Hollywood -- with new host Mario Lopez joining Kit Hoover and Scott Evans -- will air live on the East Coast at 7 p.m. ET when its 24th season debuts on Sept. 9. In some markets, Access Hollywood will be followed by All Access with the same hosts. NBC says the new show will "dig deeper into the national headlines to uncover the extraordinary real-life drama occurring in everyday places and exploring compelling true crime and uplifting human interest stories." Lopez, Hoover and Evans will also host Access Daily. "With the rapidly evolving entertainment news cycle, we strive to bring our viewers the most up-to-date headlines, and going live will achieve that," Maureen FitzPatrick, senior executive producer of all three shows, said in a statement. "We will be able to advance the stories in real time as news breaks."
