We all know the ones that were pushed for no reason but who are the ones you thought "man, that person is going places" but never really took off?

Taylor Kitsch. He certainly gets work but he was supposed to be the break-out star of Friday Night Lights. It just never happened for him. Kyle Chandler, Michael B. Jordon, Connie Britton went on to have big careers but he got left behind.

Alan Ruck. I thought that maybe he'd have a somewhat decent career after Ferris Bueller's Day off but he never became anything more than a background extra.

This is a really obscure one, but Kay Thompson. She was absolutely outstanding in Funny Face and completely stole the show but for some reason, that was the only movie she starred in.

Other actors I can think of, mostly in cult or cult-like movies: Keir Dullea of 2001: A Space Odyssey, Kevin McCarthy of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Bud Cort of Harold and Maude, Malcolm McDowell (whose career really went nowhere after A Clockwork Orange) and Michael J. Pollard.

Female actresses of the 1970s and 80s who were pushed as "the next big thing" but never really took off after that one big hit: Debra Winger, Ali MacGraw, Katharine Ross, Melanie Griffith, Meg Ryan, etc.

Jonathan LaPaglia he played frank parker in seven days!! seven days was time traveler show he could only go back in time for 7 days!! something happens in seven days then he goes back in time only for seven days!! but i know one reason it didn't do that well it was on upn then they moved it to friday nights on fox!! i also stopped watching it once they move it on friday nights on fox!! ! i thought he kind of looked liked gambit form x-men comic! he would been my top pick for gambit!!
