  Star Trek actress Nichelle Nichols has reportedly been heard screaming for help in a recording during a guardianship battle with her son.

The 86-year-old, who shot to fame playing Lieutenant Nyota Uhura in the 1960s sci-fi show, is said to have been screaming 'get your hands off me' after allegedly finding out her son, Kyle Johnson, was trying to take control of her estate.

She has reportedly been battling dementia and has had other health problems in recent years, including in 2015 when Nichols suffered a minor stroke.

Gilbert Bell, Nichols' friend and manager, was said to have handed the video and audio to an Atlanta TV station in which the star reportedly discusses her son's bid to get guardianship over her, according to WGCL-TV.

A voice said to be that of Nichols is heard saying at one point: 'You get your hands off me, I'm not going home. You're trying to get rid of me. I'm the boss of me, Gil. He's not the boss of me.'

The voice is then heard saying, 'I didn't give permission to have conservatorship over me, because I didn't know what he was doing.'

A male voice, reportedly that of her son, then said as he entered the room: 'Mother, Mother, we're going home now.'

She is then alleged to have been recorded screaming, 'give me my stick, no, no, no'.

Nichols reportedly added, 'he's not the boss of me', as she was shown court documents detailing her son's attempts to gain control of her estate for the first time.

Los Angeles Police Department detectives visited the home of Nichols and interviewed her and her son Tuesday night, according to reports.

The video was said to have been recorded on April 23.

In May last year Nichols' son, Kyle Johnson, said his mother is being taken advantage of by 'certain individuals'.

He filed paperwork in court stating she has dementia, which is causing short term memory loss and 'impacting her executive functioning'.

The 66-year-old, who is her only child, said his mother's condition is making her 'susceptible to undue influence'.

Johnson's attorney, Jeffrey Marvan, told the judge he was concerned Nichols's manager, Gilbert Bell, had deeded one of her two properties to himself.

He also said $259,000 in funds from Star Trek conventions in 2015 had disappeared from Nichols's account.

Then in August last year Nichols alleged her son tried to stop her from working and attending Star Trek conventions years before she fell ill.

She was placed under four temporary conservators in May 2018 after her son told a court she was suffering severe memory loss.

Her friend, producer Angelique Fawcette, then released a video obtained by DailyMail.com taken in 2013 of the star expressing her frustration over her son's attempts to stop her from working.

Nichols as Uhura and William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk exchanged the first TV interracial kiss during the classic series in 1968 - just one year after interracial marriage was made legal in the US.

One season earlier, Nichols was convinced to remain on the series after Dr Martin Luther King Jr praised her for helping to break racial stereotypes with her portrayal of Uhura.
