for what is ultimately a pretty sprightly sitcom"
https://www.vox.com/culture/2019/5/1...ay-recap-mateo "The last 10 minutes of Superstore’s season four finale, 'Employee Appreciation Day' are unlike anything else the show has ever done," says Todd VanDerWerff, adding: "What’s amazing about 'Employee Appreciation Day' is how many different tones the episode blends." VanDerWerff discussed the immigration-themed episode with creator Justin Spitzer, who explains how Thursday's episode will affect next season. "In terms of the decision to do it, it was something that we had in the back of our minds for a while," says Spitzer. ALSO: Nico Santos writes that filming the season finale "felt very real to me." |

America Ferrera says Superstore's ICE storyline could “possibly drag on for three to four seasons"
Don't expect ICE's apprehension of Nico Santos' Matteo to be a brief storyline, Ferrera said at Superstore's Comic-Con panel. Meanwhile, Santos calls filming the episode "triggering." “I think any immigrant who comes to this country also knows somebody who is undocumented," he said. "Members of my family were undocumented at some point in their lives, so doing this storyline was very personal, very touching, was very triggering.” |
