"Grey's Anatomy" and "Station 19" to Build Shared Universe Next Season
"Grey's Anatomy" and "Station 19" to Build Shared Universe Next Season
by Nellie Andreeva May 14, 2019 Last week, ABC announced that "Grey’s Anatomy" showrunner Krista Vernoff will also take over spin-off series "Station 19" for its upcoming season. It turns out the move wasn’t just about utilizing the magic touch Vernoff had shown revitalizing "Grey’s" on the sophomore firefighter drama. I have learned that there is a bigger, ambitious plan for integrating the two series into a shared universe following the success of the shows’ two crossovers this season. I hear that "Grey’s" and "Station 19" are going to play up the shared universe aspect much more next season, with storylines kept fluid and characters seamlessly going back and fourth in what would feel like two-hour episodes. Vernoff and her team will have time to map out the intricate joint storylines as "Station 19" is not on the fall schedule and will return for season 3 later in the season. "Grey’s Anatomy" is heading into a record-breaking 16th season this fall. https://deadline.com/2019/05/greys-a...19-1202614870/ |

I'm not that excited. I like Grey's but that other show doesn't interest me.

Why ABC's plan for Grey's Anatomy-Station 19 weekly crossovers is a bad idea: It sounds like a business decision
"I get that, having lost Grey’s creator Shonda Rhimes to Netflix, ABC wants, maybe even needs, to make its Grey’s offshoot a hit," Charlie Mason says of ABC's "shared universe" plan. "But this ain’t the way to do it. All non-stop crossovers are going to accomplish, I fear, is make Grey’s feel less like Grey’s (and presumably Station 19 feel less like itself, too) and alienate the audience of the network’s top-rated drama. If Station 19 needs retooling, by all means, retool away; just don’t do it at the expense of Grey’s." |

ABC Chief on “Game Changing” Relationship between "Grey’s Anatomy" & "Station 19" with Crossover Episodes & Relationships
by Nellie Andreeva August 5, 2019 ABC Entertainment President Karey Burke got "Grey’s Anatomy" and "Station 19" fans buzzing in May when she said that “people can expect crossover event between these series every week” following the news that "Grey’s Anatomy" showrunner Krista Vernoff will also take over spinoff series "Station 19" for its upcoming third season. At TCA today, Burke provided an update. “I am very energized and excited by the work that is going on over at Station 19 and what Krista Vernoff is doing as the overseer and head showrunner of both of those shows, and I believe that there’s exciting things to come in the third season of that show, and in particular the nature of its relationship with Grey’s Anatomy, will be pretty game changing.” There will be no crossovers every week. “There will be a number of tentpole crossover episodes throughout the season,” Burke told Deadline. “They will revolve around major events.” Crossover romance is also in the cards. “In addition to that, there are relationships between characters from the two shows that will develop –- we have already seen some of that — and will cross over in the episodes.” https://deadline.com/2019/08/greys-a...nt-1202662076/ |

Grey's Anatomy and Station 19's season premieres are months apart: How will they maintain parallel timelines?
Grey's returns for Season 16 on Sept. 19. Station 19 Season 3 kicks off in early 2020. So how will both shows deal with continuity when they're sharing the same universe? “We are using Grey’s to mark time on both shows," explains Krista Vernoff, who is now overseeing both shows. “When Station 19 premieres (at midseason), we’ll do a little bit of flashing back to cover the time lapse.” |
