Default Netflix cancels Santa Clarita Diet after three seasons

https://deadline.com/2019/04/santa-c...ns-1202602903/

The horror-comedy series starring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant won't return for Season 4. The news comes weeks after the March 29 Season 3 premiere. Santa Clarita Diet's cancelation is part of a Netflix trend of series lasting only two to three seasons. Santa Clarita Diet joins One Day at a Time, Love, Bloodline and Hemlock as lasting for only three seasons. "Every time I turn around they’re cancelling a show over there," Olyphant recently told TVLine. Santa Clarita Diet was coming off a very strong season, and its devoted fans had started a #SaveSantaClaritaDiet Twitter campaign. Creator Victor Fresco and executive producer Tracy Katsky released a statement saying: "Netflix took at chance on this odd show and for that we will always be grateful. They were supportive, ever positive, and appreciative of our work. Until about noon today. Still, they were just one phone call away from being a perfect studio. Not bad. Everything ends. This was a thing. And so it ended. We’ll miss it but are proud of the work we did and will always appreciate the love and enthusiasm we felt from our audience. It if was up to them, Sheila and Joel would continue for another 10,000 years." ALSO: Creator Victor Fresco had a "huge new storyline" planned for Season 4.

Hate to hear this, I liked the show and thought it was pretty funny. They also had some great guest stars on it, Nathan Fillion, Linda Lavin, Zachary Knighton, Maggie Lawson, Joel McHale just to name a few. Wish they'd give it at least one more season to tie up a few loose ends.

Santa Clarita Diet fans are furious at Netflix

Fans of the three-season horror-comedy series took to Twitter over the weekend following Friday's news of the show's cancelation, asking why Netflix has the money to spend on so much other content, but not beloved originals like Santa Clarita Diet and Once Day at a Time.

Santa Clarita Diet was a dependable show that didn't deserve cancelation after three seasons

"We don’t talk about dependable these days," says Lea Palmieri. "A car, a sweater, a TV show: the things that run how they’re supposed to, that serve their function, that get the job done: we take them for granted. The dependable things aren’t gushed about or complained about. They exist, they’re nice, that’s it. Until they don’t anymore. Santa Clarita Diet was dependable as all hell." Palmieri adds: "The thing about Santa Clarita Diet was that it was consistently nice and fun and enjoyable, but it wasn’t the kind of show that people would have arguments about or declare their MIND BLOWN. There was no threat of spoilers if you didn’t watch it the day it dropped. It was a nice way to spend an afternoon and then move on with your life with a smile on your face. But there doesn’t seem to be room for those types of delightful shows on the Netflix roster much more (see: One Day at a Time) and perhaps that’s why they pulled the plug on it. However, that was definitely the wrong move here." ALSO: Santa Clarita Diet was fun to watch, but it never overcame its reputation as “the Drew Barrymore zombie show."
