Marvel's The Gifted has been axed after two seasons, while Lil Rel Howery's freshman comedy isn't coming back after failing to receive a back order for additional episodes. "Fox has started ripping off the Band-Aid on its cancellations" now that it is an independent broadcast network, as The Hollywood Reporter put it. Rel and The Gifted were both productions of 20th Century Fox Television, the studio whose ownership went from Fox to Disney last month. Rel premiered to 5.5 million viewers, but saw its viewership slowly decline to 2 million total viewers. Rel also has been reeling from the death of co-creator Kevin Barnett in January. The Gifted dropped 40% from its freshman run, averaging 2 million viewers. |
