Looking back at Bewitched in hindsight and looking at things from Endora's prospective, do you find her a little more sympathetic? I mean, her daughter marries this guy that wants her to suppress who she is. So it's kind of easy to understand where she is coming from. Granted, Endora was still in the wrong for being objective to Samantha's marriage just because Darrin was mortal. But the way Darrin treats Sam doesn't make him any more right either.

Please put me on Team Endora. Considering the strength of her powers, she was VERY TOLERANT of Darrrin’s hissy-fits.

Team Endora, mostly.
Most of the time it feels like Darrin's stance is that he's the "king of the castle" and therefore it's his way and only his way, always. It's easy to see how someone like Endora would be appalled and also baffled that Samantha would allow herself to be in that sort of relationship when she's had probably centuries of being a free spirit who did what she wanted to do, whenever she wanted to do it. Endora is always setting up little traps for Darrin because she's just that desperate for Sam to see that Darrin is no great prize. The twist is that Darrin is definitely loyal and faithful to his wife. After Dick Sargent took over the role of Darrin it seems that Darrin did become a little less insistent about Samantha not using her witchcraft. There are episodes where he suggests that she does use witchcraft when he is bringing guests home at the last minute. He even goes with Samantha to Salem for her witch conference. I feel more sympathetic to Darrin#2 when it comes to Endora even though he continues to provoke Endora, because the character of Darrin wasn't as crazed when he sparred with Endora. He seemed more reasonable, but Endora continued to have her little plots to get rid of him. |
