"First, he’s playing a character from Star Trek lore (he was the Enterprise’s captain before Kirk and appeared in the original series’ pilot), so expectations were high. Second, he’s playing a captain on a show where the previous captain was a bad guy, so viewers had a right to be skeptical. Somehow Mount, with his straight shootin’ charm and commanding demeanor, accomplished everything he needed to do and more."
