When one commenter responded by calling Smollett a "lying felon," Howard wrote in response: “Sorry you feel that way but that’s the only Jussie I know. The Jussie I know could never even conceive of something so unconscious and ugly. His innocence or judgment is not for any of us to decide. Stay in your lane and my lane is empathy and love and compassion for someone I’ve called my son for five years. It’s God’s job to judge and it’s ours to love and hope, especially for those that we claim to have loved. There’s nothing more harmful than a fake friend!" Meanwhile, TMZ is reporting that it has proof the $3,500 check Smollett gave brothers Ola and Abel Osundairo was for training and that the FBI isn't sure Smollett wrote threatening letter to himself.

Howard posted an Instagram video on Saturday expressing support for his TV son. But TMZ reports Howard was always skeptical of Smollett's hate crime attack story, and he had a "complete meltdown" after Smollett was arrested. Before his arrest, TMZ reports Howard confronted Smollett over alleged holes in his story. ALSO: Chicago PD chief: "There's a lot more evidence" Smollett staged attack.
