Vince Gilligan’s "Breaking Bad" Movie Headed to Netflix & AMC

Vince Gilligan’s "Breaking Bad" movie continues to be shrouded in secrecy, but I hear it will air on Netflix and AMC, which also carries Gilligan’s Emmy-winning series.

No one would comment, but word is that the two networks might have their roles reversed, with Netflix taking first window and AMC second. The "Breaking Bad" series aired originally on AMC, with seasons subsequently made available for streaming on Netflix.

For Netflix and AMC to share the "Breaking Bad" follow-up is fitting as the two outlets share the credit for the success of the original series. Gilligan acknowledged the streamer’s contribution in his acceptance speech for the series’ first best drama series Emmy win in 2013.

Little is known about the "Breaking Bad" movie, believed to be a sequel starring the series’ Aaron Paul. As we previously reported, it is written and directed by "Breaking Bad" creator/executive producer Gilligan, who also co-created and executive produces AMC prequel series "Better Call Saul". He is joined by producers Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein, who have worked with Gilligan both on Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

I hear the script is being shot as a feature though it has not been determined yet how it will air, as a film or cut into episodes.

Aaron Paul won't confirm he's filming a Breaking Bad movie

“Rumors are funny — I once heard a rumor that I was being cast as Han Solo,” Paul said at the Sun Valley Film Festival when asked about reports of a Breaking Bad film. He added: “I haven’t heard anything about the Breaking Bad movie but if there is one and it comes together I’d love to be a part of it...If it were to happen, yes, I would love to do it.”

Downton Abbey movie was a box office success in theaters, so why is El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie primarily a TV event?

El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie will have a limited theatrical run, but it'll be nothing compared to the Downton Abbey film that opened to $31 million at the box office. The difference lies in the vision of of their creators, according to The Wrap. The movie release of Downton Abbey reflected creator Julian Fellowes' vision of fan service, while the Breaking Bad film was made with Vince Gilligan's desire for intense secrecy, which meant very little promotion. El Camino is also Gilligan's way of paying back a debt of gratitude to Netflix for making Breaking Bad a hit.
