I've been reading elsewhere that after six seasons, it's getting less likely that many of the episodes were actually based on real stories in Adam Goldberg's life. A tale-tell sign is when you see episodes that don't put in the real footage Adam recorded at the end of the shows.

Considering that Barry was celebrating his 16th birthday in the first episode, he'd be 22, now. The actor's receding hairline and obviously shaved chest and back aren't doing much to his his age.
