"FBI" Spin-off "Most Wanted" Gets Backdoor Pilot, Series Commitment at CBS

Dick Wolf’s freshman CBS drama series "FBI", which was just renewed for a second season, is getting a spin-off.

The network has commissioned a backdoor pilot for "FBI: Most Wanted", which will air as an episode of "FBI" in the spring. The project has a series commitment, making an episodic pickup for next season likely.

As the name suggests, "FBI: Most Wanted" is centered around the division of the FBI tasked with tracking and capturing the notorious criminals on the FBI’s Most Wanted list.

The planted spin-off episode, which is now casting leads for the potential offshoot series, is written by Wolf and one of his trusted writer-producers, "Law & Order" alum Rene Balcer, and will be directed by another "Law & Order" veteran, Fred Berner, who also has been directing episodes of Wolf’s "Chicago" dramas on NBC.

Julian McMahon To Star in CBS’ "FBI: Most Wanted"

Julian McMahon (Marvel’s Runaways) is set as the lead in "FBI: Most Wanted", the planned spin-off of Dick Wolf’s freshman CBS drama series "FBI".

McMahon will star in the backdoor pilot for "FBI: Most Wanted", which will air as an episode of "FBI" in the spring. The spin-off has a series commitment, making an episodic pickup for next season likely.

McMahon will play Jess LaCroix, an “agent’s agent” who’s at the top of his game and oversees the team from the FBI’s Most Wanted Unit, which is assigned the most extreme and egregious cases.

CBS has picked up Dick Wolf’s "FBI: Most Wanted".

"Most Wanted" started as a planted spin-off episode of freshman "FBI", already renewed for a second season.

The official logline reads, "The series is centered on the Fugitive Task Force of the FBI that tracks and captures the notorious criminals on the FBI’s Most Wanted list."

Cast members include Julian McMahon, Alana de la Garza, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Kellan Lutz, Roxy Sternberg, Nathaniel Arcand.

“There has been a wonderful initial reception," Dick Wolf said at the TV press tour while promoting his FBI spinoff. "The show to me is quite an insane panel. They are inextricably linked in terms of attitude, storytelling is very different but will lend itself to crossovers. And I guess my major announcement today is we will be doing a crossover in the spring.
