Novelists and other book authors used to have The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Charlie Rose, The Tavis Smiley Show and The Colbert Report as book-friendly late-night destinations. But Stewart retired and Colbert moved to CBS, where he mostly welcomes celebrity authors. Meanwhile, Charlie Rose and Tavis Smiley were taken down by sexual harassment scandals. That leaves Trevor Noah's Daily Show and Late Night with Seth Meyers as the primary options for authors to promote their new books. “I’ve tried to build upon the legacy I’ve inherited from Jon by trying to find more diverse voices, and trying to find more writers who may not be the best-selling writers who we were already interviewing,” Noah says of hosting authors on The Daily Show. Meyers adds: "As much as I love having Stephen King or Jonathan Franzen or George Saunders, we also saw it as an opportunity to have diverse writers and writers who are publishing their first or second novel, because this will probably mean more for them than people who are already established." |

These days I think there's a lot of YouTube channels and Podcasts that get more viewers/listeners than these TV show hosts where segments can never last more than five minutes before they have to go to break.
The modern-day Dick Cavett is probably Joe Rogan, with his Joe Rogan Experience Podcast. 5 million people listen to that, more than those who are watching Seth Meyers any given night. |

The few late night shows that I watch, I turn off before the interview. I read but I'm not that interested in authors personally.
