Jamie Foxx, Ellen DeGeneres, Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart are pulling in big paychecks per episode for their respective primetime reality TV and game shows. “Once you’ve invested $25 million to launch a show, if another $3 million to $5 million (in host fees) makes the difference between success or failure, it’s worth it,” a veteran agent tells The Hollywood Reporter, adding that success in the U.S. market also frequently determines the prices format rights will fetch in other markets. Mark Burnett, who produces Foxx's Beat Shazam and Hart's TKO: Total Knockout, adds: “These are people who are really, really good at what they do. If you want to have that level of capability on the screen combined with the marketing value of a star and the umbrella effect it has on promotion for the network, you have to pay them.” |

Kevin Hart's TKO: Total Knockout was a big flop and it got a lot of promotion. His big salary wasn't worth it.

From Ellen DeGeneres to Kevin Hart to Jamie Foxx and many others it seems that the first step now to being a popular celebrity is becoming a game show host and as you can see many movie stars and comedians/comediennes being game show hosts as a way to boost their careers. Take for example Howie Mandel regained popularity when he became the host of Deal Or No Deal and regained popularity with his comedy concerts and with the reboot of Deal Or No Deal coming next month Howie Mandel will still be a fan favorite with people. Another movie star that had success as a game show host is Greg Kinnear when he hosted College Mad House and then hosted E! Network's Talk Soup and is now a successful actor in movies such as Stuck On You. I think these celebrities will be a new breed of game show hosts and will start hosting successful game shows for years to come
