Default Fran Drescher Wants Cardi B to Play Her Daughter in a Reboot of The Nanny

https://www.lipstickalley.com/thread...eboot.1885019/

Quote:
Fran Drescher is ready for a reboot of The Nanny — and she knows exactly who she would want to cast in the series!

Stopping by PeopleTV’s Chatter on Wednesday, Drescher, 61, spoke about a potential revival of the 1990s sitcom — saying that she’s on board for the project despite little interest from the current networks.

“I’m totally down with doing it,” she said. “I don’t know what is going on with some of these networks out there because they do not seem to be hip to the fact that there’s an obsession amongst millennials for the show and moi!”

Still, that didn’t stop the actress from revealing her dream cast member for the show’s unofficial revival.

“I wanna do a sitcom with Cardi B,” Drescher said. “Wouldn’t she be great as my daughter?”

The idea for the casting came after Cardi stepped out in September wearing a head-to-toe cheetah ensemble during Milan’s Fashion Week. Posting a photo of her outfit to Instagram later on, the “I Like It” rapper attributed her look to Drescher.

Default Fran Drescher Says Her Nanny Reboot with Cardi B Isn't Actually Happening

https://people.com/tv/fran-drescher-...snt-happening/

Quote:
The flashy girl from Flushing may be coming back to television soon — but sadly, she won’t be played by rapper Cardi B.

On Wednesday, actress Fran Drescher stopped by SiriusXM’s The Michael Yo Show where she talked about her long-rumored reboot of The Nanny, the CBS sitcom that catapulted the 61-year-old actress to fame back in the ’90s.

Drescher has openly campaigned to get Cardi to play the role, in a reboot that would cast Drescher as her mother. But as she told comedian Michael Yo, that request has fallen on deaf ears.

“Truth be told, I’m not developing that as a television series right now,” Drescher admitted. “I’ve talked to her representation.”

Instead, Drescher said she’s collaborating with writer/producer Peter Marc Jacobson (her gay ex-husband) and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend creator Rachel Bloom on “something that I think The Nanny fans are going to be very excited about. Something Nanny related.”

Still, the Cardi premise lingers in Drescher’s mind.

“In my head, I always thought that for a television series it might be more fun rather than where are we 20 years later, to actually do the show with a whole new cast and get like a Cardi B to play the Nanny and get like an Obama type to play Mr. Sheffield. Maybe I could be Cardi B’s mother Sylvia, and just mix it up!” Drescher added.

Cardi was a perfect choice for Drescher to give the show the boost it needed.

“I actually think she’s funny. I think she’s beautiful and she has a funny voice. She’s from New York. She’s got the style of a star and you can’t buy that. There are just some people like JLo and Cher and Diana Ross. It’s just a given,” said Drescher. “She and I on social media, on Instagram and stuff, she’s often putting us together. My picture, her picture. She’s very influenced by the style of myself and the nanny from back in the day and it’s very flattering to me.”

The Nanny premiered on CBS in 1993 and ran for six seasons before its finale in 1999. The show followed Drescher as Fran Fine, a failed bridal shop worker turned makeup saleswoman from Flushing, Queens, who finds herself the nanny to British Broadway producer and millionaire Maxwell Sheffield’s three children.

Now celebrating The Nanny‘s 25th anniversary, Drescher has said the sitcom still has a sea of loyal fans. “People really love that show,” she told PeopleTV in October. “It’s unreal.”

Unfortunately, Drescher said at the time that there’s been little interest from networks about the potential for a new series.

“I’m totally down with doing [a revival],” she said. “I don’t know what is going on with some of these networks out there because they do not seem to be hip to the fact that there’s an obsession amongst millennials for the show and moi!”

Fran Drescher Gives Update on "The Nanny" Reboot Plans – Tribeca Film Festival
by Anthony D'Allessandro
April 29, 2019

In this golden age of TV reboots, we’ll have to wait a bit for "The Nanny" to return. Deadline caught up with Fran Drescher at our Hyundai Tribeca Film Festival studio where she was promoting her new movie Safe Spaces which makes its world premiere tonight at 7:30PM at the Village East Cinema.

"The Nanny" co-creator and star told us that she still has ideas for a comeback of "The Nanny", but it’s still early. At the top of Drescher’s dance card right now is the NBC multi-camera comedy "Uninsured" in which she stars.

While Drescher couldn’t get into details on whether the next rendition of "The Nanny" would be for the stage or TV, she hinted that a series reboot could entail a younger cast.

Why would Fran Drescher wand Cardi B for any of her projects, much less a reboot of The Nanny? I think Cardi B is one of the most repulsive and ill-behaved people on this planet right now. Fran should have gotten someone else to play her daughter.

Fran Drescher: I can't work on reviving The Nanny until after the potential Broadway musical

The planned Broadway musical she's working on with Rachel Bloom "is the next big Nanny thing, so I have to honor that commitment,” Drescher said at the TV press tour.

I've read a few interviews now where she has said if the script was good enough to show the cast 20 years after it ended with the original cast then she would do it. She doesn't want.ro do it just for the money the script has to make her heart flutter.

I.really. hope its a revival with herself and Charles and whoever else and they are still married.
