Default Damon Wayans: I'm "done" with Lethal Weapon

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/li...weapon-1149084

Wayans said in an interview with Electronic Urban Report he'll depart the Fox action series after he's done filming Season 3's initial 13-episode order in December. Wayans insists he's not kidding. "I am going to be quitting the show in December, after we finish the initial 13. So, I really don't know what they're planning but that's what I'm planning," Wayans said. "I'm a 58-year-old diabetic and I'm working 16-hour days." Wayans said he plans to return to the stage and to "try and find my smile again." Lethal Weapon was renewed for Season 3 after Clayne Crawford was fired from the show for abusive behavior. It was later reported that Crawford and Wayans fought on set. Fox declined to comment on Wayans' remarks. Wayans's reps also declined comment.

Damon Wayans' Lethal Weapon exit announcement reportedly blindsided everyone, especially after solid Week 2 ratings
Wayans is signed on for six seasons of the Fox action drama, which is performing well following Clayne Crawford's firing. Deadline's Nellie Andreeva reports that Wayans' comments to Electronic Urban Report amounted to bombshell news to the studio and producers. "I hear that ever since Wayans statement went public, there has been a flurry of talks between the actor, his team and the studio," reports Andreeva. "He is clearly very emotional in the interview, so I hear the show’s producers and executives wanted to find out whether his comments were a reaction to physical and mental exhaustion or a well thought-out and final decision. The outcome of these conversations will impact the future of Lethal Weapon as Fox had been mulling a short — I hear probably two-episode — back order for the series, likely bringing its third season to 15 episodes." Andreeva adds: "It will be hard for the series to survive the exit of both of its leads in short succession, and to justify being called Lethal Weapon without Riggs (Crawford) or Murtaugh (Wayans).

Fox Boss on "Lethal Weapon" Season 3 Renewal Chances, Damon Wayans’ Future
by Nellie Andreeva
February 6, 2019

Fox Entertainment chairman Charlie Collier avoided directly addressing "Lethal Weapon" star Damon Wayans’ comments that he would be leaving the show after Season 3 for health reasons, but indirectly indicated that this may be the end of the reboot, which underwent a co-lead change after Season 2.

Wayans made headlines with his bombshell announcement in October that he was planning to leave the Fox series after the first 13 episodes of Season 3 are completed because of the toll working on the show had been taking on his health as a diabetic.

Since then, he agreed to do two additional episodes, and I have been hearing the veteran actor and "Lethal Weapon" producer Warner Bros TV had worked out a framework where he could potentially continue working with accommodations made to alleviate the burden of long filming hours.

While he stated that he cannot discuss renewals, Collier was complimentary of "Lethal Weapon‘s" performance and hinted that any production issues with Wayans may have been resolved, stating repeatedly that everyone is “working in lockstep.

I think that the show has hit its stride, and it has done quite well [recently],” Collier said.
