“This is not a subjective decision,” said HBO Sports executive vice president Peter Nelson of ending boxing coverage after this year. “Our audience research informs us that boxing is no longer a determinant factor for subscribing to HBO.” Nelson met this morning with the HBO Boxing staff, including play-by-play announcer Jim Lampley and analyst Max Kellerman. HBO has broadcast many marquee boxing matches over the years, including 16 featuring Mike Tyson. HBO's last boxing match is a middleweight title fight at Madison Square Garden on Oct. 27. ALSO: HBO Sports will now focus on reality TV and documentary programming. |

I wonder how Showtime is continuing to telecast boxing as of 2021?

When it comes to sporting events especially big huge events like boxing channels such as HBO and Showtime have always been number one for boxing because when you look at it from a different vision boxing is usually a big hit for cable TV channels and now that HBO is no longer gonna show boxing I think HBO will lose viewership due to this. Because now with only Showtime and Pay-Per-View showing boxing matches I think HBO will focus on expanding their lineup to add more movies and concerts but will still show sports but likely they will replace boxing with WWE Wrestling along with Peacock and FOX because next to boxing matches WWE Wrestling is the second popular sport who's matches are sometimes shown as Pay-Per-View events and people pay tons of money just to watch them. So what I think in general HBO will most likely focus on adding more shows rather than sports because they saw boxing as a way to attract new viewers. But now that HBO will be done with boxing for good at least Showtime will still show boxing as a way for them to make money

My husband has been watching boxing on HBO for many years, he will hate to hear this news. He may drop HBO and just watch the matches on Showtime. I imagine other boxing fans will do the same.

The premium-cable outlet will honor its 2023 obligations, airing all of its remaining boxing commitments.

Boxing's been trash for years so I don't blame HBO for getting rid of it.
