TV Jodie Whitaker's "Doctor Who" to Premiere Oct. 7th on BBC America

"Doctor Who" Gets Season 11 Premiere Date, Moving to Sunday Nights
by Ryan Schwartz
September 5, 2018

"Doctor Who" will formally introduce its first-ever female Doctor this October, and on a new night.

BBC America has announced that Jodie Whittaker’s inaugural season (aka Season 11) will debut on Sunday, Oct. 7. The premiere will be timed to the UK broadcast, followed by a primetime encore in its new Sunday night time slot (which remains TBA).

In addition, the basic cabler has revealed the premiere episode title: “The Woman Who Fell to Earth.”

Whittaker made her debut as the Doctor at the tail-end of the 2017 Christmas special, when Peter Capaldi’s Time Lord regenerated into the franchise’s first-ever female lead.

At the time of her casting, Whittaker said, “It’s more than an honor to play the Doctor. It means remembering everyone I used to be, while stepping forward to embrace everything the Doctor stands for: hope. I can’t wait.

Joining Whittaker for Season 11 are the Thirteenth Doctor’s three (!) new companions: Bradley Walsh (Law & Order: UK) as Graham, Tosin Cole (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) as Ryan and Mandip Gill (Hollyoaks) as Yasmin.

Additionally, Sharon D. Clarke (Holby City) will appear in an unspecified “returning role.” Behind the scenes, Chris Chibnall (Broadchurch) will take the reins as showrunner, replacing Steven Moffat.

Doctor Who's new boss made casting a female Doctor a condition of helming the show
"It felt like a straightforward decision, it's not that controversial," says showrunner Chris Chibnall of casting Jodie Whittaker. "It's very hard to think of many examples in its 55-year history where the Doctor takes a decision based upon gender."

Jodie Whittaker on being the first female Doctor Who: "I know I got the role on the merits. I didn’t get handed it. I don’t play a gender"
"If the fact that I’m a woman is an issue, that’s their issue," she tells The New York Times. "I can’t even begin to debate that.”

Jodie Whittaker says she didn't watch much Doctor Who before landing the iconic role

"For me, I came into the audition process and I said, look I've seen it, 'cause obviously you'd have to live under a rock if you've never seen an episode, but I was not brought up in Whovian house, and it's not something I've watched from start to finish." To prepare, she decided to read up on Doctor Who's history rather than watch old episode -- which she plans to do after exiting the role. ALSO: Whittaker's Doctor Who debut to screen in cinemas.

I got to see the season premiere of Doctor Who last Sunday and I was playing video games when Mom came in and told me about it and I mainly watched it because it had my crush Bradley Walsh in it and Mom and I sat in my room watching it and she liked it too because of the action and Bradley Walsh too. I later watched the last part because I had to eat dinner when the first showing ended. Even Mom who insisted to watch Alice rather than watch Doctor Who again was impressed with the ending of the first episode and I thought it was very sad that Bradley Walsh's character Graham lost his wife you could feel Bradley Walsh's emotions in the funeral scene. I can honestly say that BBC put in a lot of time and promotion into this season of Doctor Who and it even helps that BBC America has done a lot of promotion for this season as well. But I think the two big stars that will get a lot of focus on this season of Doctor Who will be Jodie Whittaker and Bradley Walsh but mainly Jodie because she is the first female Doctor Who. Already I have plans to collect Doctor Who merchandise and have a Doctor Who themed bedroom soon. I can't wait to see the next episode Sunday

Hi, Bestie! I watched Bradley on the show. He has a good character. I wonder if he will sing on the show? Wouldn't that be great?
