Has "Newhart" as a show not aged well

I'll try to explain as best as possible. Much of Bob Newhart's style of comedy hinges on what he's reacting to. But depending on your point of view, what he's generally reacting to isn't terribly interesting most of the time. And the writing in general tends to fall back on the cliches of sitcom writing of the era (especially if you cut out Larry and the Two Darryls from the equation). Also, Mary Frann's character had virtually little depth or chemistry with Bob Newhart. In a nutshell, Newhart seemed to embody the least pleasant aspects of the 1980s.
